TL074 is an IC of TL07X family. TL07X family contains other single and dual op-amps which are TL071 and TL072. The TL071 contains one op amp inside and TL072 contains two separate identical operational amplifiers. TL074 contains 4 separate operational amplifiers inside which all are identical. The IC is available in 14 pin plastic DIP package. The total number components in these four op amps are 56 transistors, 6 JFET, 4 epi-FET, 44 resistors, 4 diodes and 4 capacitors.
Like other ICs in this family TL074 also contains same features like low input bias current, high slew rate, low current consuming circuitry, free from latchup etc. The quiescent current in no load condition is only 1.4mA to 2.5mA. Each op amp consists JFET at the input which cancels most of the noise from the signal and hence supply clean and low noise signal to the internal circuitry, these low noise capability makes this IC ideal to use in wide variety of audio applications. The IC is also THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) free which is useful if it is used in audio preamplifier applications.

Replacement and Equivalent / Other Part Numbers
TL071 and TL072 are the exact matched equivalent ICs which contain similar op-amp as the TL074. If you can’t find TL074 then you can use four TL071 or 2 TL072 in the place of one TL074. LM324 can also be used as an equivalent of TL074 and you can also use two LM358 ICs. Moreover, the LM837 and two NE5532 can also be used as an alternative to TL074.
This is a circuit of an audio preamplifier circuit using TL074 IC. As mentioned above TL074 is a quad op amp IC hence there are 4 operational amplifiers inside but we have used only one in this circuit. The operating voltage of the circuit is 9V DC.
Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings
Each component has a limit and usage guidelines, operating a component above these limits can cause permanent damage to the component or shorten its lifespan therefore it is also important to know about the absolute max ratings of each component before using it in your circuit or design.
Operating Voltage: The maximum operating voltage of supply voltage of the IC when using a dual power supply is ±18 and when operating with a single supply the max supply voltage should not be more than 36V.
Maximum Input Differential Voltage: The max input differential voltage of the IC should not be more than ±30.
Maximum Power Dissipation: Max power dissipation is 680 milliwatt. It means the amount of heat this IC can handle and when it reaches to 680mW its temperature will go to 150 degrees centigrade.
Storage and Operating Temperature: The storage temperature of the IC is -65 degrees centigrade to +150 degrees centigrade and the operating temperature is differentiated by suffixes, the ICs package that has “C” after the part number can be operated from 0° Celsius to 70° Celsius, the package that has “I” at the end of part number can be operated from 40° Celsius to 85° Celsius and the package that have “M” after the part number can be operated from -55° Celsius to +125° Celsius.
