LM358 is a widely used IC, below in this article you will find LM358 pinout, equivalent, applications, features, description and other information about this IC.
LM358 IC Features / Technical Specifications:
- Two high gain operational amplifiers in a single package.
- The DC gain of the IC is 100dB
- Both the internal operational amplifiers can be operated from a single supply.
- Easily be operated from wide supply that is from 3V to 30V.
- It can also be operated with dual power supplies, from ±1.5V to ±15V.
- Very low operating current only around 500uA
- 1MHz bandwidth which is wide enough for this type of IC
- It can be easily used with microcontrollers and logic devices.
- Thanks to its standard pinout structure due to which it can easily be replaced with other operational amplifiers.
- Internally short circuit protected

LM358 is an operational amplifier 8 pin IC available in different packages. One of the most used package is 8 pin dip package. The IC is consisting of two separate operational amplifiers in a single package. Both the internal operational amplifiers are of high gain and can be easily derived from single or dual power supply. One of the main feature of this IC is its low current consumption that makes it ideal to use with battery operated projects or devices. It can be operated with a wide range of supply which is from 3V to 32V DC due to which it can easily be used with low voltage logic devices and microcontrollers.

Application Circuits :
Light Sensor Circuit
The circuit shown below is a light sensor circuit built around the LM358 IC. The IC is used here as a comparator. An LED is connected at the output pin 1 which is the output of the operational amplifier 1 or Section A. The 20K variable resistor is used to adjust the sensitivity of the circuit.
Dark Sensor Circuit
The circuit shown below is a dark sensor circuit built around the LM358 IC. The circuit is almost the same as the above light sensor circuit, but the different is in this circuit the variable resistor middle pin is connected with pin 2 or inverting input of section A of the IC as a result the circuit will now make the output of Section A high when there is complete darkness or low light also depends on the adjustments of the 20K variable resistor.
How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit:
For stable and long term performance it is recommended to not operate the IC with more than 32V DC. Moreover make sure to always connect the supply in the right polarity, accidentally connecting supply in reverse polarity may result in internally damaging the circuit of the IC. Always operate the IC in temperate from 0 centigrade to +70 and do not store the IC in temperature below -65 centigrade and above +150 centigrade.
