MPS6531 Transistor Explained / Description:
MPS6531 is a TO-92 package NPN transistor designed for general purpose amplifier and switching applications but it is not limited to these application and can also be used in variety of other applications.
The maximum continuous collector current of the transistor is 1A which is a good collector current for a TO-92 package transistor. Collector-emitter voltage is 40V, collector-base voltage is 60V, emitter-base voltage is 5V and total device dissipation is 625mW. The maximum DC current gain of the transistor is from 60 to 270.
Advantages and disadvantages of using MPS6531:
Advantages of Using this Transistor:
There are some very good advantages of using MPS6531 transistor if you are using it for your general purpose requirements. Two of the main advantages of the transistor are its small size and continuous collector current of 1A which makes it ideal to drive good amount of loads under 1A as compare to those transistors which has low collector current. The overall ratings of the transistor is also acceptable for general purpose medium power use.
Disadvantages of Using this Transistor:
On the other hand collector-emitter voltage of the transistor is only 40V which makes it unsuitable for high voltage applications. The collector current of 1A is enough for variety of medium power applications but for high power applications you have to look for its higher voltage alternatives.
Applications:
Switching loads of upto 1A
Audio Amplifiers
Sensor and Detector Circuits
Output of Microcontrollers and ICs
Safe Operating Guidelines:
To get this device serve you for long life it is important to follow these safety guidelines when using the transistor. The maximum collector current is 1A therefore do not drive load of more than 1A and it is better to always stay under 800mA. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is 40V but it is always better to stay under 20V, the max operating and storage junction temperature is -55 to +150 °C for good performance always make sure the transistor stay under theme temperature limits.
