LM78L09 Description

LM78L09 is a 9V fixed voltage regulator IC of LM78Lxx series. This series contains small size fixed voltage regulator of different voltages such as 5.0V, 6.2V, 8.2V, 9.0V, 12V, 15V with maximum output current of 0.1A or 100mA. The IC is available in TO-92 and other small packages. The output voltage of the IC can be checked by the last two digits written after “LM78L”. LM78Lxx is a series of positive voltage regulators but there is also same negative voltage regulators series is available that starts from “LM79L”.

The input voltage supply range of the IC is wide and you can provide minimum input voltage from 12V to 35V DC with 150mA to 200mA input current. One thing should be kept in mind when designing the circuit and using LM78L09 voltage regulator that the input voltage should be atleast 3V higher than the output voltage to get an accurate and stable 9V output.

LM78L09 IC has many built features such as short circuit protection, over heat shutdown, safe area protection that makes this IC internally damage proof and reliable to use in commercial equipment.

How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit

To get long term performance from LM78L09 IC it is suggested to use this IC atleast 20% below from its maximum ratings. The maximum output current is 100mA therefore do not drive load of more than 80mA, the maximum input voltage is 35V DC for safety do not provide more than 28V to 30V DC and always operate the IC in temperature above 0 degree centigrade and below 125 degree centigrade. The storage temperature of the IC is from -65 degree centigrade to +150 degree centigrade.
