IRFP9240 Transistor Explained / Description:

If you are looking for a MOSFET that you can directly drive from the output of ICs or if you want to drive any load under -12A from the arduino, raspberry pi or other electronics platform then this MOSFET can be a good choice.

The transistor has many good features which makes it ideal to use in variety of applications. Some of the best features are high drain to source voltage of up to -200V which makes this transistor ideal to use projects which uses up to -200V or drive load of -200V.

It also has high switching speed of nanoseconds which also makes it a good choice to use in circuits or applications which require high speed switching.

Moreover it has simple drive requirements due to which it can easily be used directly at the output of ICs and electronic platforms such as arudino and raspberry pi.

Other features of the transistor are ease of paralleling, repetitive avalanche rated, low RDS(on), high temperature reliability, more safe operating area etc.

The maximum drain current of the transistor is -12A and the maximum drain to source voltage is -200V, maximum pluse drain current is -48A, maximum RDS(on) is 0.500 Ohms and maximum power dissipation is up to 150W.

The primary applications of the transistor are DC to DC converters, relay drivers, high power transistor drivers and motor drivers.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

If you want a reliable transistor to drive loads directly from the output of ICs or electronic platforms then this MOSFET will be a good choice. You can use it to drive motors directly from the output of ICs and electronic platforms output, you can use it in DC to DC converters, to build UPS circuits, to build battery charger circuits etc. Moreover it can also be used in high power audio amplifiers. But it is not limited to only these applications and can be use in variety of other applications which you will find under the applications heading below.

Applications:

Solar Chargers

Solar Power Supplies

BMS

Switch Mode Power Supplies

Uninterruptible Power Supplies

Battery Charger Circuits

DC to DC converters

Motor Driver Applications

High Power Audio Amplification Applications

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

To safely operate this transistor do not use it on its absolute maximum ratings and stay 20% below from it absolute maximum ratings. Maximum continuous drain current is -12A therefore do not drive load of more than -9.6A, the maximum drain to source voltage is -200V therefore do not drive load of more than -160V, use a suitable heatsink with the transistor and always store or operate it in temperature above -55°C and below +150 °C.
