2SC458 Transistor Explained / Description

If you are looking for a high power transistor for your RF applications then 2SC1970 is an ideal transistor for this purpose. 2SC1970 is a TO-220 package transistor designed especially for RF applications under 175MHz. The transistor can provide max output power of 1.2Watt and the maximum DC current gain of the transistor is 10-180. The maximum collector current is 600mA and max collector dissipation is 5 Watt.

Other than that this transistor can also be used for switching applications and can drive load of upto 600mA. If your design requirements are higher than the ratings of 2SC1970 than you can also use other high power versions which are 2SC1971 and 2SC1972.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use

2SC1970 transistor can be used wide variety of RF applications such as radios, wireless data transmission, TV sets etc. Moreover it can also be used in RF power amplifiers or in its stages.

Other than that it can also be used in any general purpose application which falls under its ratings.

Applications

RF Amplifiers

RF Amplifier Stages

Radios

TV Sets

Switching loads under 600mA.

How to Get Long Term Performance in a Circuit

To get long term performance from 2SC1970 always use it 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. The max maximum collector current of the transistor is 600mA therefore do not drive load of more than 480mA. The max collector emitter voltage is 17V therefore do not drive load of more than 13.6V. Use a proper heatsink with the transistor and always store or use the transistor in temperature above -55 degree celsius and below +150 degree celsius.
