2SK246 Transistors Explained / Description:

2SK246 is a TO-92 package N Channel JFET or Junction gate field effect transistor. The transistor is designed to use in applications such as converters, DC AC high input, constant current circuits, impedance converter circuits, impedance amplifiers etc. The transistor features high breakdown voltage of -50 and high input impedance of -1nA.

Looking at the maximum ratings of the transistor the gate to drain voltage of the transistor is -50V, max gate current is 10mA, max drain power dissipation is 300mW, max junction temperature is 125°C and max storage temperature is from -55°C to 125°C. The maximum ratings are the maximum limit of the transistor on which the transistor but it is not recommended to use any electronic component on its maximum limit. Using any component to its absolute maximum ratings may sometimes damage the component or weakens its performance in the long run. Therefore it is suggested to always stay 20% below from the maximum ratings of a component.

The transistor comes in three different IDSS classification (Drain Current) and can be determined by alphabets written below the part number. If that alphabet is “Y” the its drain current will be 1.2 to 3.0mA, if these alphabets are “GR” then its drain current will be 2.6 to 6.5mA and if these alphabets are “BL” then its drain current will be 6 to 14mA.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

As mentioned above 2SK246 JFET is designed for converters, DC AC high input, constant current circuits, impedance converter circuits, impedance amplifiers etc. Therefore it can be used in DC to DC converters circuits, audio equipment, signal processing and amplifier circuits the detailed list of its applications are listed under “Applications” heading.

Applications:

Computer Equipment

Measuring Equipment

Robotics

High Voltage Circuits

Home Appliances

Power Supplies

Battery Chargers

Guitar Pedals

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

To safely operate the transistor it is suggested to not use a transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and as described before staying 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. And always store or operate the transistor in temperatures above -55°C to +125 °C.
