2SC2229 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC2229 is a BJT NPN transistor available in TO-92L or TO-92MOD package but with some manufacturers it is also available in TO-92 package. It is actually an NPN triple diffused transistor; these types of transistors are made by diffusing dopants. The transistor is having quite good features such as it can work on high voltages of upto 150V, minimum capacitance at the output, transition frequency is upto 120MHz. The max collector current of the transistor is 50mA. The max voltage required for saturation of the transistor at its base is only 0.5V with only 5mA of base current to drive 50mA load. The output capacitance at collector is 3.5pF to 5pF and the max collector dissipation is 800 milliwatt.

The minimum and maximum DC gain value of the transistor is 70 – 240 and some manufactures sell these transistor with two different gain classifications that can be checked by looking at the first alphabet below its part number. If that alphabet is “O” then the gain will be 70-120 and if it is “Y” then the gain will be 120-140.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use

2SC2229 transistor can be used for variety of purposes. Due to its high collector to emitter voltage value it can be used in high voltage applications. It can also be used in wide variety of audio amplification and audio driver circuits. Moreover it can also be used in black and white video circuits. With the max transition frequency 120MHz this transistor can also be used in RF circuit under 120MHz for example in AM and FM broadcast and receiver circuits.

Applications

Audio Amplifiers

Audio Amplifier Driver Stages

High Voltage Applications

Radio and RF Circuits

Switching loads under 50mA

How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit

To get long life performance with 2SC2229 transistor it is suggested to not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and always stay 20% below from these max ratings. The max collector current of the transistor is 50mA therefore do not drive load of more than 40mA, the max collector to emitter voltage is 150V therefore the load voltage should be under 120V and always use or store the transistor in temperature above -55 degree centigrade and below +150 degree centigrade.
