2SC2240 Transistor Explained / Description:

The 2SC2240 transistor manufactured in TO-92 package NPN BJT transistor with quite interesting features, one of which is its 120V collector to emitter voltage which makes it ideal to use in upto 100V circuits. Moreover the transistor has also very low noise figure which is 4dB to 6dB, this low noise feature makes it ideal to use in audio preamplifier, audio amplifier and also for other low noise circuit requirements. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 100mA due to which it can also be used as a switch.

The DC gain of the transistor is from 200 to 700. C2240 transistor is available in two different codes from which the user can understand the DC current gain. The transistor on which the GR code is written will have a hFE of 200 to 400 and the transistor on which the BL code is written will have a hFE of 350 to 700.

Where We Can Use It & How to Use:

2SC2240 transistor is primarily built for low noise audio applications but it can also be used as a switch and can drive load of upto 100mA. Moreover, it can also be used for any type of signal amplification and can also be used in Radio and RF applications around 100MHz. Using procedure of the transistor is same as we use any other NPN BJT transistor.

Applications:

Audio preamplifier

Audio amplifier

Switching loads under 100mA

Darlington pairs

Different types of signal amplification

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

For safe operating do not drive this transistor on its maximum ratings and always stay 20% below. The maximum collector emitter voltage is 120V so do not drive load of more than 96V. The maximum collector current is 100mA so do not drive load of more than 80mA and always store or operate the transistor in temperature above -55 °C and below +125 °C.

NPN Complementary:

PNP Complementary 2SA970.

Replacement and Equivalent:

2SC3201, 2SC3200, 2SC3245, 2SC2459, If this transistor is used in a circuit that is operated with low voltage power supply for example under 12V to 18V then you can also use low voltage equivalents like BC547, BC546, BC548, BC549, BC560, 2SC458, 2SC945, 2SC1815.
