2N1711 Transistor Explained / Description:

2n1711 is an NPN metal case transistor manufactured in TO-39 package. The transistor is primarily designed for switching, amplification and oscillator purposes. When used as a switch it is capable to deliver 500mA of collector current. The peak collector current of the transistor is upto 1A. The peak collector current value determines the maximum collector current the transistor is capable to drive in pulses of micro and milliseconds.

The maximum collector to emitter voltage is 50V which is a little bit higher and a plus point. The maximum junction temperature of the transistor is 200°C which also another plus point and ensures that the transistor will easily survive upto 200 degree centigrade when it is in active or working state.

The maximum transition frequency is 100MHz due to which it can be used in variety of RF applications under 100MHz. The DC current gain range of the transistor is 100 to 300 and the maximum power dissipation is 0.8W or 800mW.

Low Noise Feature

2N1711 also has low noise capabilities and the noise figure is from 3.5dB to 8dB. This low noise feature makes this transistor ideal to use in applications where low noise is important.

Where We Can Use It & How to Use:

2N1711 transistor can be used in wide variety of applications. As mentioned above it can be used as a switch and capable to drive load of upto 500mA. Other than that it can also be used as an amplifier and capable to amplify wide band of signals. Moreover it can also be used in Radio frequency applications under 100MHz frequency range.

Audio Amplification Circuits

Audio Preamplification Circuits

RF applications

Any signal amplification

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

Before using a transistor in your circuit or design it is important to check the absolute maximum ratings and in order to get long life performance do not use any component on its maximum ratings and stay 20% below from it. Using a component at its maximum rating puts pressure on the component which can result in permanent damage to the component, weakening it or shortening its life. Therefore same goes with the 2N1711 transistor, the maximum collector current of the transistor is 500mA hence as the 20% rule do not drivel load of more than 400mA. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is 50V therefore do not drive load of more than 40V. Use a suitable heatsink with the transistor and always store or operate the transistor at temperature above -65 °C and below 200°C.
