LM78L24 is a fixed output positive voltage regulator IC available in TO-92 and other small packages. It is an IC of LM78LXX series, it is a series of a low cost and high performance ICs, in this series there are also other fixed voltage regulator ICs such as LM78L05, LM78L06, LM78L09, LM78L12, LN78L15, LM78L18, LM78L24.
As regarding to output current LM78L24 has same output current as the other ICs in this series which his 100mA. The IC also contains many features like short circuit shutdown, over heat protection or over heat shutdown etc.
The IC features and functionality is almost same as the LM7824 but the only difference is the output current the LM7824 can provide output current of upto 1.5A and LM78L24 can provide max output current 100mA, so if in any of your design you want to use a 24V voltage regulator and the current requirements are less than 100mA then LM78L24 will perform very well. Moreover the short circuit protection, over heat protection function and other features make this IC rugged and reliable to use in commercial devices. The small size packages and low standby current also makes this IC ideal to use in portable and battery operated designs.
Operating the IC is very easy and not required any external components but sometimes you have to use two additional capacitors one at the input and another at the output of the IC to filter the voltages. To get accurate and stable 24V at the output the input voltage must be 2V to 3V higher or else the IC will not work properly.

How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit
To get long life performance with this IC do not use it to its max ratings and always use it 20% below from its maximum ratings. The maximum output current of the IC is 100mA therefore do not drive load of more than 80mA. Do not provide more than 35V input to the IC for more safety provide max input voltage of 28V to 30V DC. Always use or operate the IC in temperature above 0 Celsius and below +125 Celsius and store the IC between -65 degree Celsius to +150 degree Celsius.
