BF423 Transistor Explained / Description:

BF423 is a PNP bipolar junction transistor manufactured in TO-92 plastic package. The pins of the transistor are arranged as follows: The first pin of the transistor is emitter, second pin is collector and the third pin is base. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 50mA, the max collector to emitter voltage is -250V, maximum collector to base voltage is -250V, minimum DC current gain is 50, maximum collector dissipation is 830mW and the maximum transition frequency is 60 MHz, however some manufacturers also make it with 100MHz (fT) or transition frequency.

The main purpose for which the manufacturers make it is for using in class B video output circuits of monitors and televisions but due to its high voltage capabilities and other specifications this transistor can also be used in variety of other applications.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

As described above this transistor can be used in TV and monitors class B video output circuits but not limited to these uses and can also be used in other applications such as AC doorbells and variety of different AC applications.

NPN Complementary:

NPN complimentary of BF423 is BF422

Replacement and Equivalent:

BF421, 2SA1624, 2SA1767, KTA1277

Applications:

TV and monitor class B video circuitry

Switching circuits

And many other general purpose and high voltage applications

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

To operate this transistor safely in your design or circuits it is recommended to follow these guidelines. First of all the important point to remember is do not use this transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and always stay 20% below from its max ratings which are described above and also in its datasheet. The maximum collector current is 50mA therefore do not drive load of more than 40mA, the maximum collector to emitter voltage is 250V therefore do not drive load of more than 200V and always store or operate the transistor at temperature above -55°C and below +150 °C.
