2SB647 Transistor Explained / Description:

B647 is an PNP transistor available in TO-92L or TO-92MOD package. This transistor is primarily designed to use in L.F power amps but due to its good specs it can also be used in wide variety of general purpose applications. The maximum collector current of the transistor is -1A or -1000mA, and the maximum collector to emitter voltage is -80V. The maximum collector power dissipation is 0.9 Watt and the minimum to maximum DC current gain of the transistor is 60 to 320 however the transistor comes in three different gain values which can be determined by the alphabet used after the part number. If the alphabet is “B” then the gain value will be 60-120, if it is “C” then the gain value will be 100-200 and the that alphabet is “D” then the gain value will be 160-320.

The collector to emitter saturation voltage of the transistor is 0.5V and the minimum base current required to drive -500mA load is -50mA and for maximum output current which is -1A the base voltage should be -100mA.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use

As mentioned above B647 is primarily designed to use in L.F power amps applications but other than that it can also be used for variety of different general purpose applications. It has a -1A collector current due to which it can be used as a switch to drive load of up to -1A. It can also in Radio and RF circuit under 140MHz.

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

For safe operating this device the user should not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and stay 20% below from these max ratings. The maximum collector current of the transistor is -1A therefore do not drive load of more than 800mA or 0.8A. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is -80V therefore do not drive load of more than 64V. The maximum storage and operating temperature of the transistor should be between -55 °C to +150 °C.
