2SC4468 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC4468 is another good NPN transistor available in TO-3PN package designed to be used in audio and general purpose applications. The transistor has many good features such as high collector-emitter voltage, good collector current, good DC current gain, transition frequency of up to 20MHz and availability of its PNP complimentary transistor.

Looking at the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor the collector base voltage is 200V, collector current is 10A, collector-emitter voltage is 140V, base current is 4A, emitter-base voltage is 6V, collector power dissipation is 100W, junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is from -55°C to 150°C.

The transistor is manufactured in three different versions according to its DC current gain and each version can be identified with the help of an alphabetic code written after the part number there are three different codes which identified the DC current gain of each transistor which are as follows:

Code “O” means DC current gain of 50 to 100

Code “P” means DC current gain of 70 to 140

Code “Y” means DC current gain of 90 to 180

How to Use This Transistor:

2SC4460 is an NPN BJT (bipolar junction transistor) and like all BJTs, it has three pins which are Emitter, Base and Collector. The emitter pin is usually connected either directly or indirectly, to the negative rail (ground) of the circuit. The signal that you want to amplify or from which you want to control any output load will be applied to the base pin of the transistor and output is received at the collector pin.

This is a basic overview of how this transistor function’s used in circuits. but you will also require some passive components to use with the transistor to make a proper circuit. To build circuits with transistor one requires some knowledge and experience in electronics.

Applications:

Audio Power Amplifier Circuits

Audio Amplifier Stages

Switching load of up to -10A

Power Supply Circuits

High voltage applications (Up to 140V)

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Some important guidelines to safely operate the transistor:

  • To safely operate the transistor always operate it at least 20% to 30% below its absolute maximum ratings.
  • Check transistor’s pin layout before using in your circuit
  • A suitable heatsink should be used.
  • Always store and operate the transistor at temperatures between -55°C and +150°C.
