2SC4242 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC4242 is a good high voltage transistor that can be used in wide variety of applications. Some good features of the transistor are high collector-emitter voltage, low saturation voltage, high switching speed, highly reliable etc.

The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are collector-emitter voltage is 400V, continuous collector current is 7A, collector-base voltage is 450V, emitter-base voltage is 8V, base current continuous is 2A, collector power dissipation is 40W, junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is -55°C to 150°C.

Looking at the electrical characteristics of the transistor the collector-emitter saturation voltage is only 0.8V, base-emitter saturation voltage is 1.2V, DC current gain is 10, and transition frequency is 20MHz.

This transistor can be used in switching, amplification, voltage converters, inverters etc. The detailed list of its applications can be found below.

How to Use This Transistor:

2SC4242 is also a BJT transistor so the using procedure is same as we use other BJT transistor by applying signal to its base, applying negative voltage to its emitter pin and receiving output at its collector pin.

Applications:

Switching

High Speed Switching

Switching regulators

DC to DC converters

Inverters

Audio Amplifiers

And Variety of Other Applications

Safe Operating Guidelines:

To safely operate the transistor follow these guidelines:

  • Do not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and stay at least 20% below from these ratings.
  • Use heatsink with the transistor.
  • Always check pin layout before using in your design or circuit.
  • Storage and operating temperature should be between -55°C to 150°C.
