2SC5200 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC5200 is an NPN transistor manufactured in TO-264 package. This is a popular transistor and it is mainly built for power audio amplification purposes. The max collector to emitter voltage of the transistor is up to 230V and the max collector current is 15A. The collector power dissipation of the transistor is 150W.

In old days it was mostly manufactured by Toshiba with its name 2SA5200 but now they have changed it to TTA5200. But you can still find the old Toshiba’s 2SA5200 from many components stockers and you can also find their duplicate Chinese made transistor which works almost same. In case you are unable to find these transistors then you can also use their equivalents.


Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

2SC5200 transistors are mainly built for audio amplification purposes and thus you can use them in the output stages of high-power audio amplifiers. It is also used with its PNP complementary transistor 2SA1943 to build high-power audio amplifiers. The amplifier circuits built with these transistors provide quite good and high base audio output. It can also be used separately to build a simple audio amplifier. Other than that it can also be used to switch current load of upto 15A with load voltage of up to 230V.

How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit:

For long life performance as we always suggest use it at least 20% below from its max ratings. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 15A, therefore, do not drive load of more than 12A, the maximum collector to emitter voltage is 230V, therefore, do not drive load of more than 180V. As mentioned it is a high power transistor it also contains a heatsink connection, therefore, a suitable heatsink is a must to use. The collector of the transistor is also attached to the heatsink connection therefore it is important to take care that the heatsink will not touch any connection of the circuit. The minimum to maximum storage and operating temperature of the transistor ranges from -55 degrees centigrade to +150 degrees centigrade. For good and long term performance of the transistor, the temperature around the transistor should not touch these minimum and maximum limits.
