2SA1837 Transistor Explained / Description:

As we have already discussed about the 2SC4793 NPN transistor, the 2SA1837 is the PNP complimentary 2SC4793. The 2SA1837 or A1837 is PNP version of this transistor and available in same TO-220F plastic package.

It is also primarily designed for power amplification and for using in output stages of audio power amplifiers. But other than that it can also be used as a switch and can drive load of opto -1A and the maximum load voltage of collector to emitter voltage is upto -230V.

Moreover the maximum collector dissipation is 20 Watts, the maximum DC current gain is 320 and the transition frequency is 70MHz. The high transition frequency also makes it ideal to use in radio and RF circuits of upto 70MHz.

Where We Can Use It & How to Use:

2SA1837 is primarily designed for audio amplification applications therefore it will perform well in this area. As already discussed, it will perform well in high power audio amplifiers and also in their output stages. Normally you will see it in audio amplifiers with its NPN complimentary 2SC4793 transistor. But it does not have to be used all the time with NPN complementary and can be used separately and with other NPN transistors in the audio amplifier.

Other than that it can also be used as a switch and can drive load of upto -1A. With -1A load driving capability it can drive many loads such as relay switches, high power transistors, motors, bulbs, Leds, part of a whole circuit etc.

Replacement and Equivalent:

2SA2182, MJE5851, MJE15035, MJE5850, KTA1837, MJE15033

Applications:

High power audio amplifier applications

Audio amplifier stages

Motor Driver Circuits

Radio and RF Circuits

Drive load of up to -1A

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

To safely operate this transistor for getting long term performance always use it 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. The maximum collector current of the transistor is -1A therefore do not drive load of more than -800mA. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is -230V therefore do not drive load of more than -180V and do not store or operate the transistor in temperature above -55°C and below +150 °C.
