2SC4793 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC4793 is a NPN epitaxial transistor available in TO-220F package. The transistor is primarily designed for power amplification and for use in output stage of audio amplifiers. But it is not limited to these uses and can also be used in other applications which we will discuss later in this article.

TO-220F package is different from the TO-220 package, so don’t be confuse between these two packages. The TO-220 package has plastic body but at the upper back side there is a heatsink tab which is in metal while the TO-220F transistor package has full plastic body and there is not any metal heatsink outside.

As discussed the 2SC4793 is also a TO-220F packaged transistor. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 1A. The maximum collector to emitter voltage of the transistor is 230V which is a plus point and due to which this transistor can be used in high voltage circuits and can also drive high voltage loads. The maximum transition frequency of the transistor is 100MHz which is another good feature of this transistor which makes this transistor capable to use in high frequency circuit such and radio and RF circuits.

Moreover the maximum DC current gain of the transistor is from 100 to 320 and the collector dissipation is 2 Watts.

Where We Can Use It & How to Use:

As mentioned above 2SC4793 can be used to build simple and high power audio amplifier circuits for which it is primarily built for. But it is not limited to these uses and can also be used for switching purposes. Additionally due to its high transition frequency it can also be used in Radio and RF circuits.

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

Before using a transistor or any other components in your design or circuits it is important to understand the safe operating guidelines of the component and also it’s absolute maximum ratings. It is also important to understand that using a component on its absolute maximum ratings put stress on the component and may result in permanent damaging the component or weakening it or shortening its life span, therefore we suggest to use a component atleast 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. Hence same applies to the 2SC4793 transistor. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 1A therefore do not drive load of more than 800mA. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is 230V so do not drive load of more than 180V and always store and operate transistor at temperature above -55°C and below +150 °C.
