2SA1294 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SA1294 is a TO-3PN package PNP high voltage power transistor designed to be used in audio applications and many other general purpose applications. The transistor possesses some good features which are high collector-emitter voltage, good collector current, upto 35MHz of transition frequency and upto 130 Watt of collector power dissipation.

2SA1294 is available in two different hFE classification mean it is available in two different versions according to its DC current gain and you can identify it with the help of the alphabet written below its part number. If that alphabet is “O” then its DC current gain will be 50-100 and if its is “Y” then its hFE will be 70 to 140.

This transistor can be used for variety of purposes such as in power supply circuits, amplifier circuits, driver circuit, switching circuits etc.

How to Use This Transistor:

2SA1294 is a BJT or bipolar junction transistor so the procedure to use this transistor will be same as we use any other BJT by applying positive voltage to its emitter, applying signal to its base and receiving amplified output from its collector in amplifier circuits and driving load through the collector pin in switching circuits. This is a basic guide about how this transistor can be used but to design a proper switching, amplifier or any other type of circuit some electronic experience is required.

Applications:

Switching Regulators

Audio Amplifier Circuits

PWM Circuits

DC to DC Converters

Audio Amplifier Stages

Inductive Load switching

Battery Management Systems

Switching load of up to -15A

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are some important guidelines to safely operate the transistor.

  • Do not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and stay at least 20% below from these ratings.
  • Check and confirm pinout before using in your circuit or design.
  • Always use a suitable heatsink with the transistor.
  • Always Store and operate at temperature above -55°C and under +150°C.
