2N4393 Transistor Explained / Description:

2N4393 is the third transistor of the 2N439x N channel JFET series available in the TO-18 package, the other two transistors in this series are 2N4391 and 2N4392. Moreover, this series is also available in TO-92 and SOT-23 packages. The main difference between all the transistors in each series (of different packages) is their VGS(off) and rDS(on). Moreover, the gate-drain and gate-source voltage of SST prefix (which are in SOT-23 package) is -35V and their temperature range is from -55°C to 150°C.

These transistors have many good features such as low capacitance of only 3.5pF, fast switching speed, low insertion loss, fast switching speed of 4 nanoseconds, low ON resistance, high off isolation, low glitches, low error voltage, better frequency response etc.

All the above features makes it a versatile transistor that can be used in wide variety of applications such as switching, choppers, amplifiers and other applications that require higher accuracy. The detailed list of its applications can be find below in this article.

How to Use This Transistor:

As discussed above this transistor can be used in wide variety of applications most common uses are in switching circuit and amplifier circuits. In amplifier circuits it is will be wired as a common source and in switch circuit it will be wired as common drain.

Applications:

Analog Switches

Current Limiters

Choppers

Normally “On” Switches

Fast Switching Applications

Specialized Amplifier Circuits

Sample and Hold Circuits

Commutators

High off Isolation Circuits

Application that Requires High Accuracy

Low Noise Applications

Safe Operating Guidelines:

To safely operate the transistor always use it at least 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings, check its pin layout before using in your circuit and design, always use a suitable heatsink with the transistor in applications in which it will go on high temperature and do not expose it t temperature below -65°C and above 200°C.
