FR107 Diode Explained / Description

If you are looking for a high efficiency fast recovery rectifier diode then FR107 might be a good choice. The diode is available in DO-41 package same package in which 1N4007 diode is manufactured. FR107 is the diode of FR10x series. In this series there are several other diodes such as FR101, FR102, FR103, FR104, FR105 and FR106. All the diodes in this series are almost same in characteristics but there is little difference such as their “Peak Repetitive Reverse Voltage”, “Maximum RMS Voltage”, and maximum DC blocking voltage. Therefore if you want to use any of the diode in FR10x series then you must check the “Peak Repetitive Reverse Voltage” of the transistor or the voltage which shows how much load you can drive with this diode. For example if you want to drive load under 50V then you can use any diode from this series fomr FR101 to FR107 but if the load requirements are above 50V and below 100V then you must select the next value of the diode which is FR102. So you have to increase the value of the diode according the load voltage requirements.

Looking at the specs of the diode the max repetitive reverse voltage is 1000V, max average rectified FWD current is 1A, peak FWD surge current is 30A, max DC reverse current is 5.0 to 100uA, max reverse recovery time is 250 to 500 nano seconds and max storage and operating temperature is -65°C to +175°C.

Where We Can Use It

FR107 diode can be used in wide variety of applications such as fast rectification, battery charger and power supplies under 1A current, inverter circuits, computer circuits etc. Moreover it can be used in almost any general purpose applications which fall under its ratings. More detailed list of applications can be found below.

Applications

Battery Chargers

Adapters

Low to high voltage rectification

AC to DC converters

Power Supplies

Step up and step down converters

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings

When using a component in your circuits of design it is important to keep in mind its absolute maximum ratings and design the circuit according to it and try to use it 20% below from the absolute maximum ratings. Such as the maximum average rectified forward current is 1A therefore do not drive load of more than 800V, the max repetitive reverse voltage is 1000V therefore the driven load should be under 800V and always store and operate the diode at temperatures above -65°C and below 175°C.
