BU406 Transistor Explained / Description:

BU406 is a TO-220 package NPN transistor. The transistor is basically built to use in TV’s and CRT’s horizontal deflection circuits but it is not limited to only this use, the high speed switching, high voltage and low saturation capability makes this transistor ideal to use in many other electronic applications.

The maximum collector to emitter voltage of the transistor is 200V and the maximum continuous collector current is 7A, the continuous collector current value determines the continuous load this transistor can drive. The max collector current this transistor can drive in peak is 10A, collector current peak value determines the max load the transistor can handle in pulse mode for few milli seconds. The maximum collector dissipation of the transistor is 60 Watts and the maximum junction temperature is 150°C.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

As mentioned above BU406 is basically designed to use in horizontal deflection circuits but it can also be used for variety of general purpose and high speed switching applications. Moreover it can also be used for audio amplification purposes in high power and low power audio amplifiers.

Applications:

TV’s and CRT’s horizontal deflection circuits

High speed switching

High voltage applications

Audio Amplifiers

Humidifiers

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

To safely operate this transistor do not operate it on its maximum ratings and always stay 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 7A therefore do not drive load of more than 560mA. The Maximum collector to emitter voltage is 200V so do not drive load of more than 160V. Always use a suitable heatsink with the transistor. The collector of the transistor is also connected with the heatsink tab so it is important to isolate the heatsink from circuit connections and always store or operate the transistor at temperature above -65 °C and below 150°C.
