BC639 Transistor Explained / Description:

BC639 is an NPN BJT transistor packed with many good features in its small TO-92 size package. It can be used for many general purpose switching and amplification purposes. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 0.5A or 500mA and some manufacturers are also making it with 1A max collector current capability due to which it can perform well when using as a switch to drive many loads at the same time. The max collector-emitter and collector-base voltages are 80V which means you can easily drive higher voltage load through this transistor.

On the other hand the max collector dissipation is 625mW and the max DC current gain of 160 also make is ideal to use in audio amplifier stages and also as a separate audio amplifier to drive a small 2 inch speaker directly.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

BC639 can be used in any general purpose switching and amplification applications. With its high collector current capabilities you can use it to drive high current relays, high power transistors, DC motors, high power LEDs etc. it can also be used at the output of microcontrollers and other electronics platforms like arduino and raspberry pi to drive loads. It can also be used in audio amplifiers and their stages. The transition frequency of the transistor is 200MHz therefore it can also perform well when used in RF circuits under 200MHz.

Applications:

Sensor Circuits

Audio amplifier circuits

Audio Amplifier Stages

Switching Loads under 500mA to 1000mA

Transistor Darlington Pairs

Radio Frequency Circuits

How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit:

For getting long term and stable performance from BC639 always stay 20% below the maximum ratings. Do not drive load more than 500mA and 80V DC. Always use a suitable base resistor to provide required base current and do not provide more than 100mA to its base. Always store and use this transistor in temperature above -65 centigrade and below +150 centigrade.
