2SA1013 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SA1013 is a TO-92L package silicon PNP transistor designed to be used in color TV vertical deflection output circuits and power switching circuits. Color TVs contain vertical and horizontal deflection circuits which create images you see on the TV screen. The images you see on the TV screen are made by these two circuits by controlling the electrons on the screen. When the input signal is received these two circuits arrange the electrons according to the signal so that you see same image on the screen as in the signal.

Moreover, the transistor can also be used for power switching applications and it can drive load of upto -1A.

Now looking at the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor the max collector current is -1A, max collector-emitter voltage is -160, max emitter-base voltage is -6V, max collector-base voltage is -160V, max collector power dissipation is 900mW and max storage and operating temperature is -55°C to +150°C.

A1013 comes in three different types according to its DC current gain and can be differentiated with the help of the alphabet written after is part number. If the alphabet is “R” then its hFE will be 60 to 120 and if it is “O” then its hFE will be 100 to 200.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

This transistor is mainly designed to use in vertical deflection circuit of color TVs and power switching. But it is not limited to only these uses and can also be used in various other applications.

Applications:

TV Vertical Deflection

Power Switching Applications

Driver Applications

Audio Amplifiers

Variety of General Purpose Applications

Safe Operating Guidelines:

For getting good performance it is important to not use a device on its absolute maximum ratings and always stay 20% below from these ratings. Therefore according to this rule the maximum collector current is -1A but we will drive load of only 800mA. The maximum collector to emitter voltage (The maximum voltage the transistor can provide to the load) is -160V so we will not drive load of more than 128V and the storage and operating temperature should always be between -55°C to 150°C.
