2SC458 Transistor Explained / Description

2SC458 is an NPN BJT transistor manufactured in TO-92 package. The transistor is built for low frequency amplifier applications but it can also be used in wide variety of other applications. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 100mA due to which it can also be used to drive load of 100mA and the load voltage should be under 30V. The minimum and maximum DC current gain is 100 to 500 and the maximum collector dissipation is 200mW. The transistor has quite good noise figure which is from 4dB to 10dB which makes it ideal to use in variety of low level audio and other signal amplification. The max transition frequency of the transistor is 230MHz due to which it can be used in variety of RF applications under 230MHz.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use

2SC458 transistor can be used in variety of applications. When used as a switch it can drive load of upto 100mA with this amount of current you can drive relays, LEDs, ICs, high power transistors and many other components in your circuit. Other than that it can also be used to amplify very low gain signals to high gain with noise filtration for example it can be used to amplify very low gain audio to high gain or it can be used to amplify RF signals and any type of low level or low gain signals.

Applications

Audio Preamplifier Circuits

Audio Amplifier Circuits

Audio Preamplifiers Stages

Driving or Switching Loads under 100mA

Amplification of any low gain signal

RF Circuits

How to Get Long Term Performance in a Circuit

To get long term performance with 2SC458 it is recommended to not use this transistor to its maximum ratings and always use it atleast 20% below from its max ratings. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 100mA therefore do not drive load of more than 80mA. The max collector-emitter voltage is 30V therefore do not drive load of more than 24V and always store of operate the transistor in temperature above -55 degree centigrade and below +150 degree centigrade.
