Other nearest Possible numbers are 2N4416, NTE312, 2N5638, 2N5640, 2SK162, 2SK518 (Pin configuration of some transistors mentioned here may different from MPF102 therefore check pin configuration before replacing in a circuit.)


MPF102 Transistor Explained / Description:

MPF102 is a very famous JFET transistor used in many commercial devices as well as educational and hobby projects. It is mainly built for the amplification in VHF region of frequencies. But other than that it can also be used in verity of other audio amplification related applications. The transistor possesses high gain and low noise features which make it ideal to use for very small or low level signals amplification whether it is an RF signal, audio signal or other. It can also be used for switching purposes. Although the transistor is not available any more now a days but some suppliers still having them in their stock and you can find it by searching with some reputable components suppliers. But if you can’t find it then you can also use its substitute transistors shown above.



Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

MPF102 can be used in variety of amplification applications; it can be used in signal booster circuits, audio preamplifier circuits, audio amplifier stages etc. It can also be used as a switch but it can drive load of only 10mA.

How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit:

For a good circuit design it is always essential to use all the components without giving them stress or don’t use them on their maximum ratings. To get long term stability of a component in a circuit it is recommended to always stay 20% below the max ratings. This same method will apply to MPF102 transistor. Do not drive load of more than 25V and 10mA, do not apply reverse gate to source voltage of more than -25V and always store or operate this transistor in temperature above -65 centigrade and below +150 centigrade.
