2SA1011 Transistor Explained / Description:
2SA1011 is a PNP transistor available in TO-220 package. This transistor is designed to be used in HF power amps, predriver applications of up to 100W, and high voltage switching. The transistor possesses some good features such as good switching speed, transition frequency of up to 100MHz, high collector-emitter voltage, and availability of its complementary transistor.
The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are collector-emitter voltage of -160V, collector current is -1.5A, collector-base voltage is -180V, emitter-base voltage is -6V, total power dissipation is 25W, junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is -55°C to 150°C.
The transistor is manufactured in two different versions according to its DC current gain and can be identified with the help of the alphabetic code written after the part number. If the code is “D” then its DC current gain will be 60 to 120; if the code is “E”, then its DC current gain will be 100-200.
How to Use This Transistor:
It is a bipolar junction transistor and has three pins: which are emitter, base, and collector. The transistor is controlled through its base pin by applying a signal to this pin. The emitter pin is grounded most of the time, and the output will be received at the collector. However, we cannot build a circuit with only a transistor; we also require some passive components to build a proper circuit, such as resistors, capacitors, etc. To use these passive components, one must have at least some basic knowledge and experience in electronics.
Applications:
Audio Systems
Power Amplifiers
Motor Drivers
Low Frequency Power Amps
RF Circuits
Switching Circuit
And Other General Purpose Circuits
Safe Operating Guidelines:
To safely operate the transistor, follow these guidelines:
- Do not use the transistor to its absolute max ratings, and stay at least 20% below these ratings.
- Always check the pinout of the transistor before using it in your circuit.
- Use a suitable heatsink with the transisor.
- The Storing and operating temperature range of the transistor is from -55°C to below 150°C.
