2SC2837 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC2837 is an NPN transistor available in TO-3PN package. It is the complimentary transistor of PNP 2SA1186 which has the same characteristics. Like 2SA1186 the 2SC2837 too is designed for similar applications such as audio amplification and general purpose uses. Looking at the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor, the maximum collector-emitter voltage is 150V, max collector-base voltage is also 150V, max collector continuous current is 10A which is enough for most of the applications, max emitter-base voltage is 5V, max base current continuous is 2A, max collector power dissipation is 100W and max storage and junction temperature is 150°C.

Moreover the 2SC2837 has many good features such as high transition frequency of up to 70MHz. The high transition frequency result in better audio amplification and also makes the transistor capable to be used in RF circuits.

Another good feature of the transistor is LAPT which is stand for Linear Amplifier Power Transistor. The LAPT feature ensures the better quality audio signal amplification, it not just only amplify the signal but also reduces the noise and distortion from the signal which makes the signal same as input but amplified.

Another good thing is that the manufacturer also manufactures its matched PNP complimentary version and both the transistors together makes a good pair and can be used in vareity of applications.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

2SC2837 can be used in variety of circuits such as drivers, solar circuits, controller circuits, automotive circuits, etc. To use this transistor it is important to first understand the pinout. After understanding the pinout connect the emitter of the transistor to the ground, base with the signal you want to amplify, and collector with one side of the load and the another side of the load will be connected with the positive of the circuit.

Applications:

Signal Amplification

High Voltage Relay Driving

Audio Amplification

Driving Loads under 10A

High Voltage Switching

Safe Operating Guidelines:

For safe operating the transistor it is important to not use the transistor to its absolute max ratings and stay at least 20% below. So to stay in these limits it is important to calculate the value and get the result after subtracting 20%. Therefore the maximum collector to emitter voltage is 150V therefore the derived load should be under 120V. The maximum continuous collector current is 10A so the derived load should be under -8A. Moreover, it is also important that the transistor temperature should be between -55°C to 150°C.
