2SC2238 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC2238 is a quite interesting transistor with some very good features. It is an NPN power transistor available in TO-220 package. Features of the transistor are high collector-emitter voltage, high transition frequency of upto 100MHz, good power dissipation, good linearity and availability of its complimentary pair.

Looking at the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor, the collector-emitter voltage is 160V, collector current is 1.5A, collector-base voltage is also 160V, emitter-base voltage is 5V, continuous emitter current is also 1.5A, total power dissipation is 25W, junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is -55°C to 150°C.

The transistor is designed to be used in power amplifier and driver stage of amplifiers but due to its good characteristics it can also be used in variety of general purpose applications and also in RF applications.

2SC2238 is also available in two more versions which are 2SC2238A and 2SC2238B which are slightly different from 2SC2238 in voltages. These two versions works on higher voltages than 2SC2238.

How to Use This Transistor:

It is a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) therefore the using procedure is same as we use any other BJT by applying signals to its base, applying negative voltage to its emitter and taking the output from its collector pin.

Applications:

Low noise audio amplification

Low Gain Signal Amplification

Audio Preamplifiers

Radio and RF Applications

Switching Load Under 50mA

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Please follow these safety guidelines when using this transistor:

To get long term and better performance with any transistor do not use it at its absolute maximum ratings and always stay at least 20% below. Moreover, the temperature range should be between -55°C and below +150 °C.
