2SA1302 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SA1302 is the PNP version or complimentary transistor of 2SC3281 with TO-3PL package. Since it’s the PNP complimentary of 2SC3281 so the pin configuration is also same.  The first pin of the 2SA1302 transistor is known as the base, the second is the collector and the third one is its emitter.

2SA1302 is mainly meant for building power amplifiers and can be used to create an audio power amplifier of up to 100 watts. But 2SC3281 can also be used as a switch, as it has also capable to drive high ampere loads of upto -15A.

It’s a high power transistor so it also has heatsink connection at its back. A metal plate is attached at the backside with a whole to screw the transistor with the heatsink.

What also makes this device really interesting is that its maximum collector to emitter voltage is 200V, making it the ideal choice for loads of up to 200 volts. Hence make it ideal to be used in high voltage circuits with no issue.

Moreover the maximum power dissipation is 150W, the minimum and maximum DC current gain is 55-160 and the transition frequency is 25MHz.

The letters “R” and ‘O’ that follow the transistor’s part number denote the current gain. For transistors that end with an R, its DC current gain will be 55-110. For those whose last letter is an ‘O’ it will be 55-110 as well.”

Where We Can Use It & How to Use:

As mentioned in the above paragraph it is designed for audio amplifier related applications so you can use it in these types of circuits and make high power amplifiers. Furthermore it can be used as a switch in any type of circuit and capable to drive load of up to -15A.

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

To ensure safe operation of this transistor, stay 20% below the absolute maximum ratings and never exceed those values. The maximum collector current for the transistor is -15A therefore don’t drive loads larger than -12A through it.

The maximum collector-emitter voltage of the transistor is -200V, so do not drive a load with a voltage of more than -160V. In order to cool the device appropriately, we recommend using a heatsink.

The heatsink mounting or back metal plate is also connected with the collector of the transistor so isolating it from rest of the circuit is necessary connections and always store or operate the transistor in temperature above -55°C and below +150 °C
