2N2907A Transistor Explained / Description:

2N2907A is a metal can PNP bipolar junction transistor available in TO-18 package. There are two types of 2N2907 transistors one is manufactured in TO-92 package and the other is manufactured in TO-18 metal can package. But there are also two versions of each package the metal can package is manufactured in two slightly different versions which are 2N2907 and 2N2907A, same as the plastic package is also manufactured in two slightly different package.

When the user search for this transistor on internet He / She often confused with both the different versions i.e metal and plastic but there is no need to confuse because in most cases both can be used interchangeably and works almost same. But when we look at their specs they are still not completely same and they have slightly difference. Obviously the metal alternative of any transistor have more capabilities as compare to plastic package and same goes with the 2N2907 and 2N2907A.

As mentioned before 2N2907 (TO-18 metal can package) and 2N2907A (TO-18 metal can package) are two slightly different versions and 2N2907 (TO-92 plastic package) and 2N2907A (TO-92 plastic package) are also slightly different from each other. But in this post we will discuss 2N2907A metal can version.

The maximum collector to emitter voltage is -60V and the maximum collector current is -600mA. The minimum and maximum DC current gain is 100 to 300 and the maximum power dissipation is 0.4 Watt or 400 milliwatt. The transistor can be used for low power switching and amplification purposes.

Where We Can Use It & How to Use:

2N2907A can be used for verity of general purpose switching and amplification purposes. Other than that it can also be used for pre-amplification purposes. The maximum transition frequency of the transistor is upto 200MHz due to which it can also be used in Radio and RF applications under 200MHz.

NPN Complementary:

NPN Complementary of 2N2907A is 2N2222A

Replacement and Equivalent:

KSP2907A, KTN2907A, MPS2907A, PN2907A

Applications:

Audio Amplification

Audio Preamplification

Any signal amplification

Switching applications

RF applications

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

For long life performance the user must keep in mind the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor to safely operate it and always stay 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. The maximum collector-emitter voltage is -60V therefore do not drive load of more than -32V, the maximum collector current is 600mA so do not drive load of more than 480mA. The collector of the transistor is connected with the case therefore the user must isolate the transistor case from the circuit and always store or operate the transistor in temperature above -65 °C and below 200°C.
