2SD880 Transistor Explained / Description

2SD880 is an NPN transistor manufacture in TO-220 package. It is designed for audio frequency amplification purposes but it can be used for any general purpose applications that falls under its ratings. For example it can be used as a switch and can drive load of upto 3A, with that much output current this transistor is capable to drive motors, high power transistors, relays etc. Due to its low saturation voltage it can also be used at the output of wide variety of electronic platforms like arduino and raspberry pi to drive verity of loads.


Where We Can Use it & How to Use

The transistor 2SD880 can be used in wide variety of applications. It can be used as a separate amplifier to directly drive a speaker or it can also be used to build high power audio amplifier circuits. Other than that it can be used as a switch and can be used at the output of verity of electronics platforms, ICs and microcontrollers to drive loads like motors, high power relays, lights and more.

How to Get Long Term Performance in a Circuit

To get stable and good performance for long time with 2SD880 or D880 it is suggested to use it 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. The max collector current is 3A therefore do not drive load more than 2.4A, the max collector to emitter voltage is 60V therefore do not drive load of more than 48V. Use a suitable heatsink with the transistor and always store or operate the transistor above -55 degree centigrade and below +150 degree centigrade.
