BC107 Transistor Explained / Description:

BC107 is a widely used NPN transistor, it is the transistor of BC10x NPN transistors series, and the other transistors in this series are BC108 and BC109. Like the other transistors of this series BC107 is also manufactured in TO-18 package. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 100mA and the maximum peak collector current is 200mA. The maximum collector for emitter voltage is 45V; the maximum collector for emitter voltage is the voltage that determines the maximum load voltage that this transistor is capable to drive. The max collector dissipation is 300mA and the max transition frequency is 100MHz.

Moreover the transistor has quite good low noise capabilities with the maximum DC current gain of 450.

The transistor is produced in three different types according to the DC current gain which can be determined by the last alphabet used after the part number of the transistor. If that alphabet is “A” then its DC gain value will be 110 to 220, if “B” then the DC current gain value will be 200 to 450.

Where We Can Use It & How to Use:

BC107 is a low noise and high gain transistor which makes it ideal to use in wide variety of small single amplification, audio preamplifiers, audio amplifiers and any type of signal amplification in electronics. The low noise capability of this transistor also makes it ideal to use in very small low gain and noisy signal amplification. Moreover it can also be used as variety of general purpose switching and amplification purposes.

PNP Complementary:

PNP Complementary of BC107 is BC177

Replacement and Equivalent:

If you want to use an exact match transistor as an equivalent of BC107 then you can use BC108 and BC109. The only differences between them are their DC current gain which will not make much difference in most cases. Other nearest possible substitutes are BCY65IX and BFY42 but if you are unable to get this alternatives then you can also use its TO-92 package substitutes which are BC546, BC547, BC548, BC549, BC560.

Applications:

Low noise circuitry

Low noise signal processing

Radio and RF circuits

Switching circuits

Darlington pairs

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

To ensure safe use and long-term performance of the component, we should not use any component at its maximum rating and we always suggest to stay 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 100mA therefore do not drive load of more than 80mA, the maximum collector-emitter voltage is 45V therefore do not drive load of more than 36V. The transistor collector is attached to the case so the transistor case should be isolated from rest of the circuit connections or if heat sink is used it should also be isolated from the circuit. The transistor should be used at temperature above -65 °C and below 150°C.
