2SC3998 Transistor Explained / Description:
2SC3998 is a high voltage NPN transisor available in TO-3PL package. It is designed to be used in output applications of HD color display. The transistor has some good features which are high collector-emitter voltage of upto 800V, high reliability, high speed switching of up to 100ns typically and good collector current and peak collector current.
Looking at the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor, as discussed above it has collector-emitter voltage of 800V, collector current is 25A, peak collector current is 50A, collector-base voltage is 1500V, total power dissipation is 250W, junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is -55°C to +150 °C.
As mentioned transistor is designed to be used in output applications of HD color display but can also be used in other high voltage applications.
How to Use This Transistor:
The 2SC3998 transistor is designed to be used HD color displays but it can also be used in other applications such as switching etc. for example, if you are using it as a switch then the signal will be applied to its base, emitter will be connected with the negative rail of the circuit, and the load will be connected with the collector pin. But to make a proper circuit you will also need some passive components and to use them you will need some base knowledge of electronics.
Applications:
High power audio amplifiers
Power supplies
Motor Drivers
UPS Systems
Inverters
High Voltage Converters
Safe Operating Guidelines:
To safely use the transistor in your circuit it is recommended not to use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and always stay at least 20% to 30% below these ratings. Always use heatsink with the transistor, check pinout before using in your application circuit and always store or operate between the temperature range of -55°C to +150°C.
